Summary

The relatively high hills of Britain, known as the Marilyns, are the most prominent 1550 summits in the country. They all rise above the land or sea around them by at least 150 metres. Some summits are in woodland, some are by the side of a road and some are several hours on foot from the nearest road. The Marilyns offer something for everyone. Few people have climbed them all but thousands more have enjoyed finding their way to the top, somehow.

This book lists all the Marilyns, organised into 177 tables based on hill areas defined by topographic criteria. A further 99 hills that just miss out on qualification (the Submarilyns) are also included. Thirty-three years after the first edition, The Revised Relative Hills of Britain brings the Marilyns up to date. The heights and locations are now known with remarkable accuracy, but this book offers far more than the essential tables and maps of hills. As well as a wealth of information and several articles, there are hundreds of stories from numerous contributors that portray the experiences, the adventures and the frustrations involved in climbing these hills.
